So today was our last full day, and fittingly it was spent at sea on our way to Miami. There wasn’t a great deal on the agenda other than lounging by the pool, soaking up the last few hours of cruise life, and finishing off the packing.
It was also a day of saying goodbye. Every time someone walked past it was another farewell, never quite knowing if we’d see them again later that evening or before disembarkation tomorrow morning. In the end, it seemed better to say goodbye half a dozen times than miss the chance altogether.
Our plan was to stay well away from the hard stuff today, but as usual D had other ideas. Before long he was appearing with Rum and Cokes, and despite our best intentions, by the time we’d finished packing and were getting ready for dinner we were considerably better lubricated than we’d planned.
For our final evening meal we headed to The Terrace, although I couldn’t leave without one last pizza from Waves. I’ll genuinely miss those pizzas. They were every bit as good as the best ones we get back home, and that’s saying something.
We’d heard there was going to be a big gathering in Horizons after dinner, so we wandered up there only to find… absolutely nobody. Instead, we made our way down to Martinis where David was playing the piano for the very last time before leaving the ship tomorrow along with the rest of us.
Thankfully, the whole gang was there, and it turned out to be exactly where everyone had ended up. It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces together one last time. We’ve been on plenty of cruises over the years, and saying goodbye is never easy, but after spending four months together you build genuine friendships. That’s what made this farewell so much harder.
Eventually the hugs were given, a few tears were shed, and it was time to head back to Cabin 9116 for the very last time.
We arrive in Miami early tomorrow, so a decent night’s sleep was definitely needed with a long day ahead of us.
Lights off. Eyes shut.
And just like that, 120 incredible days at sea were all but over.
What an adventure it has been. Amazing company, fantastic crew, unforgettable experiences, and more new countries than we could have imagined.
Would we do it again?
Hell yeah.
