Today was supposed to be our grand arrival into Rarotonga… but the ocean clearly had other ideas.
At around 7:45am, the Captain jumped on the PA to let us know the seas were a bit too lively (his calm way of saying “absolutely not happening”), so for everyone’s safety, the call was made to skip the stop.
And just like that — plot twist — it’s another unexpected day at sea! 🌊
Not quite the tropical island adventure we had planned, but hey, another day at sea to check out the new arrivals.
Well at about 4.30am I woke up like typical programmers do with a idea in my head to add a review section to the website and that basically meant I ain’t getting no sleep, so I got up threw on a pair of shorts and took my laptop down to Martinis to put my idea into action. The main reason it changed was because I cant upload videos as I wanted to interview couples about their segment so now they can add their thoughts online then everyone can see them Honestly this flipping Internet crap onboard is doing my head in. Anyway I was thumping away at the keyboard getting shit done and the Captain came on the PA saying we were not stopping in Rarotonga as the swell was rough, he did send 2 tenders out to test the waters and we saw them really struggle getting back to the ship so probably a good call considering there are a lot of passengers onboard that are not the best on their feet. So it meant we had all day to waste, so my web changes got high priority and I was able to finish the code off at about 3pm ready for reviews.
It’s currently 3pm we did bump into Lane and Jackie and talked about meeting up for dinner one night so thats something to look forward too.
Right now its sunny very humid and we are chilling poolside with a couple of cold ones.
We both ended up falling asleep poolside—hardly surprising really. I’d been awake since 4:45am, and Lorna didn’t get much rest either (likely thanks to me tossing and turning all night), so drifting off in the sun felt pretty perfect.
Eventually we peeled ourselves up and headed back to the room to shower, change, and get ready for the evening. First stop: Martinis for a cocktail, where we bumped into Craig and Joyce—always good for a catch-up.
Dinner was out on the back deck at The Terrace, but not before a very important pit stop at Waves to order pizza. They’ll actually bring it through to the terrace, which is dangerously convenient. I went for the Carnivore with extra pepperoni… and wow, absolutely incredible. Honestly, one of the highlights of the day! Just as we were finishing up, Craig and Joyce arrived for their dinner, so we had another chat—this time about the African excursions. Safaris from Port Elizabeth are now firmly on the “we should probably look into that” list.
After saying our goodnights, we headed back to the room and discovered we gain another hour tomorrow. And coming up soon… crossing the International Date Line, which is going to be a bit of a mind-bender.
Not a huge amount to report today as we’re at sea—but hey, even sea days deserve a mention!
