CURRENT POSITION
Cape Town | South Africa
NEXT PORT OF CALL

Arrival: 23rd May | 11am

Good morning from our second day in Cape Town, South Africa, and what a difference a day makes. We woke up this morning to see… or rather not see… Table Mountain, thanks to a thick layer of mist and fog covering the top. It was also quite chilly, so yesterday’s activities turned out to have been perfectly timed. Unfortunately, Lane and Jackie were off early this morning on the Table Mountain and city tour, so we are not entirely sure what they were actually going to be able to see, but hopefully the weather cleared up for them later on.

Today everyone onboard had to go through immigration before departure, as South Africa stamps you out of the country when you leave. Armed with our passports, we ventured back out for another wander around the V&A Waterfront area and, naturally, the possibility of a little more shopping.

The temperature itself was not too bad, just much cooler than yesterday, so we headed straight into the shopping mall for a look around. We picked up a few more goodies and also attempted to track down a particular bottle of dark rum recommended to us by our Australian friends onboard. Sadly, nobody seemed to stock it, or even know what we were talking about. So, Mhoba Rum, you remain a complete mystery to us. Perhaps one day our paths will cross, but for now the hunt continues.

We needed to be back onboard by at least 2pm, but decided not to push our luck as we had already got everything we wanted. We arrived back at the ship around 12:45 and thankfully the immigration queues had died down considerably, meaning we were able to get back onboard fairly quickly and officially leave South Africa behind.

We arranged to meet Rick and Diane in Waves for a spot of lunch and a couple of beers. They had not returned to the ship yet, so we grabbed a table and waited for them. A few minutes later they arrived and we settled in for a very nice lunch, drinks, and the important business of deciding dinner plans.

Diane originally had a reservation with Rick in Jacques, but went down to see if she could change it for four people in Polo. A few minutes later she returned and announced that we now had a reservation at 7pm in Red Ginger. We all looked slightly confused, including Diane, so at this point none of us were entirely certain where we were eating that evening, but we figured it would become apparent eventually.

Not wanting to get too carried away with the beers, we decided to head back to our room to relax and watch the ship leave port and say goodbye to South Africa.

More to come, but only if Starlink behaves itself once we are back at sea, so things may go a little quiet for a while. Hopefully not.
